How the draw stays fair

Your list is shuffled with the Fisher–Yates algorithm powered by crypto.getRandomValues() — a cryptographically secure random number generator built into your browser, far less predictable than Math.random(). The first N names after the shuffle are your winners, drawn without replacement, so nobody can win twice in one draw. Everything runs locally in your browser — names are never uploaded or stored anywhere.

Winners

Your winners will appear here after the draw.

What is a raffle winner picker?

A raffle winner picker draws fair, verifiable winners from a list of entries. You paste in the names — from a signup sheet, a comment list, a spreadsheet column — choose how many winners you need, and press draw. The tool shuffles your list with a cryptographically secure random generator and reveals the winners with a suspenseful animation that’s perfect for live draws on a shared screen.

Unlike “random” pickers built on predictable math, this one uses your browser’s crypto-grade randomness (the same engine behind secure web features), draws without replacement so nobody wins twice, and can remove duplicate signups automatically. Results can be copied, shared, or encoded into a verifiable share link with the winner list, pool size, and timestamp.

How to use the picker

  1. Paste your entries — one name per line. Blank lines are ignored; pasting straight from a spreadsheet works.
  2. Check the counts — the live stats show total entries and unique names so you can spot problems.
  3. Set the number of winners — any number up to your entry count.
  4. Choose the reveal — animated (flashes names, then reveals winners one by one) or instant.
  5. Set the options — keep “remove duplicates” on if people could have signed up twice; optionally sort winners alphabetically.
  6. Press Pick winner(s) — then copy the results, share them, or generate a verifiable share link.
  7. Draw again any time for a fresh shuffle — for example, when drawing a second prize from the same list.

Everything runs locally in your browser. Names are never uploaded or stored anywhere.

How the draw works

Parsing. Your pasted text is split into lines, trimmed, and emptied of blanks. “Maria Garcia” and “maria garcia” are treated as the same person for duplicate removal.

Secure shuffle. The list is shuffled with the Fisher–Yates algorithm driven by crypto.getRandomValues() — a cryptographically secure random number generator. Every possible ordering of your list is equally likely, which means every entry has exactly the same probability of winning. This is meaningfully stronger than Math.random(), the predictable generator behind most simple pickers.

Drawing without replacement. The first N names after the shuffle are your winners. Because each name leaves the pool once drawn, no one can win twice in a single draw.

Share links. The winners, pool size, and draw timestamp are encoded into a compact link (the #draw= part of the URL). Anyone opening the link sees the certified result — handy for proving a giveaway outcome after the fact.

Worked example

A classroom teacher has 28 students and wants 3 prize winners.

  1. She pastes the 28 names — stats show “Entries: 28, Unique: 28”.
  2. Sets number of winners to 3, keeps duplicate removal on, chooses the animated reveal.
  3. Presses draw on the shared classroom screen: names flash, then three winners are revealed one by one.
  4. She copies the results into her grade book and sends the share link to a colleague as a record.

Each student had exactly a 3-in-28 chance, and the share link permanently records the outcome.

Tips for fair draws

  • Dedupe before drawing. If entries came from a Google Form or social comments, duplicates are almost guaranteed. The automatic duplicate removal gives everyone exactly one ticket.
  • Decide the ticket rules first. One ticket per person, or one per entry? If every line should count (e.g., multiple purchases = multiple tickets), turn duplicate removal off.
  • Draw live when it matters. The animated reveal on a shared screen is the most transparent way to run a giveaway — everyone watches the randomness happen.
  • Save the share link. For contests with prizes, the encoded link is your audit trail: winners, pool size, and timestamp in one URL.
  • Redraw cleanly. For multi-prize draws, “Draw again” reshuffles the full list. If a winner should be excluded from later prizes, remove their line first.
  • Keep entry lists clean. One name per line, no extra columns pasted in — the live entry counter makes it easy to verify the count matches your source.
